For years, I was completely against rain boots; they always looked like little kid shoes, until I realized I just had to get the style right. The Chelsea boot is the low profile shape that makes sense, and Alice + Whittles does it the right way.
While the Alice + Whittles boots run a tad narrow (I originally ordered a size up as recommended, but they were way too big), they fit snuggly around your feet with a pair of socks and looser around the ankles to tuck jeans into. Plus, they are insanely light. Like, forget you’re wearing shoes light.
My only complaint with them is that right out of the box, they small heavily of rubber. Yes, they are rubber boots, but not even my Hunter boots had that strong of a smell. I let them air out in the office for a couple days, which completely took the smell out and saved my ass when I didn’t look at the weather and didn’t wear the best shoes to work.
Many a brand has put out a short rain boot, but most are very heavy. Before the Alice + Whittles boots, I wore my Hunter or Blundstone boots basically any time it looked like it might rain. While I love their versatility and no-fucking-around sturdiness, at the end of the day, it felt like my feet were an extra three pounds each.
Unlike the aforementioned boots, the Alice + Whittle boots somehow magically suction to your feet when they’re on, but easily slip off when you want to change out of them, (no hopping around attempting to break a vacuum seal on your damn shoe). Honestly though, they look so good with jeans or leggings, you might just end up keeping them on anyway.
