Trew: The Softest Merino for the Slopes, Trails, and Your Next Meeting

Back in January I skied Jackson Hole in Trew’s Roam 3/4 Bib and Wander Jacket, and more recently I took their Nuyarn Merino line camping at The Outpost in Navarro California and then out to Joshua Tree. I’m gonna keep stocking up.

First up is the NuYarn Merino Hoodie, and this is a good time to remind you that, if someone you’re reading ever calls a 100% cotton hoodie the best ever made, never trust anything they write again.

The Hoodie is the heaviest of Trew’s merino garments, and fits flatteringly without being tight. It’s ridiculously comfortable, keeps you warm but will never overheat you, and doesn’t sacrifice any range of movement. Everlane’s Street Fleece still has the aesthetic edge, but Trew’s Hoodie is the best I’ve worn.

At the opposite end of the season spectrum is the Weightless NuYarn Merino T in dipped and non-dipped styles.

The Weightless T, as you can probably guess, is the lightest piece that Trew makes. Perfect for hiking and camping, the Weightless T looks great and has a lot of fun colorways to pick from. It’s not as ultralight as Voormi’s Tech Tee, but far softer.

The LS NuYarn Crew is a versatile piece that you can dress up or down and just as soft, comfortable, and regulating as the rest of Trew’s line.

I saved my favorite for last. NuYarn’s Merino Club Shirt fits perfectly, is suitable for your next casual meeting or camping trip, and well, how many other great-looking merino polos have you come across recently? I might just make this my Steve Jobs turtleneck.

While I’ve obviously given the thumbs up to Trew, the thumbs up branding on most of what they do is something I could do without, and I’d love to see them take cues from Unbound and minimize or remove it altogether.
