Oh man, that sounds awesome. You’re gonna love the Atmos in both Fury Road and The Matrix, too—I talked about great Atmos movies in another article here if you need more ideas. (Spoiler alert: watch Gravity. Blew my freaking mind. Also Pacific RimI used to think it was just a so-so movie, then I got an Atmos system Read more

I almost included this one, because yes, the HDR and color in Mulan is insane. Absolutely worth checking out for the movie’s 4K/HDR presentation alone. (And I thought it was fine as a movie--not amazing or anything, but enjoyable enough.) Read more

While I don’t fully agree, I totally understand this preference--film grain isn’t for everyone, and I do think it’s a bit TOO apparent in some movies. You might be able to tone it down by turning on the de-noise setting--on my Vizio set, the “Reduce Signal Noise” setting (meant for analog sources and transfers) Read more

Yeah, I found Amazon’s library was kind of hit or miss for these movies. Their library/search engine is also terrible for finding 4K movies to begin with...not sure what they’re doing over there.

The only time we talked about large and small rooms in this guide was with regard to the standalone Sonos soundbar, and it was just a way of saying: if you don’t have room for a separate subwoofer and satellite speakers, this does a good job for just one bar. If you have a larger space with room for those extras, it Read more

I actually just got a chance to try out the T650 and I liked it! I thought it was particularly good for music, better than similar options from Vizio, and it’s longer (if I recall correctly) so you get some better stereo separation. I think the Vizio had a bit more low end, which was nice for movies, but ultimately Read more

God of War is one of those games that gets better and better the more you get into it. Not only does the story really pick up after a few hours, but for me, it also took me a while to figure out the combat, so once I got the hang of that—and got some gear that made things easier—it became a bit more fun. I think it Read more

I finished God of War just before I got my PS5, and I’m bummed I didn’t get to play it at that sweet sweet unlocked 60fps. But I got the PS Plus collection too; looking forward to playing a lot of those—though I wish they’d patched them for 60fps. Bloodborne, Last of Us, lots of games in that collection are still Read more

I don’t believe they have unlocked that. I do remember seeing one guy on YouTube who discovered 4K mode runs at 60 if you have the disc and don’t patch the game, but haven’t verified that myself. I’m running an up-to-date version on my PS5 and it runs at 30fps in 4K mode, 60fps in 1080p. I’d gladly step down in Read more

I have experience with both. The Quest 2 is a step backwards in some ways, and a step forward in others. I think Ars’ review makes good points but overblows them. Plenty of others have positive takes on it as well. All told, it’s still the best VR headset for most people. Read more

Good question! I haven’t heard virtual atmos on any 5.1 receivers, but there are a few things we need to lay out here.

First of all, I wouldn’t reduce the number of speakers you have just to get atmos. A 3.1.2 soundbar is going to be a big downgrade from a decent 5.1 setup—so don’t go with that. (I’m not saying a 3.1.2 Read more
