Nah, that’s totally fair. For what it’s worth, many of the other headphones in that AKG line (like the K7xx) do not have the headband problem. I don’t know why AKG ever thought those bumps were a good idea, ugh. Read more

I actually like them a lot, though they aren’t really the most comfortable. If it weren’t for Sennheiser and AKG’s offerings, Grado would probably be next on my list. Read more
Yes, because they have an impedance of 62 ohms. I should mention that in the post! Read more
That’s the point, though. The mods are what make them my perfect headphones (instead of just really really great headphones). Read more
Yay! I’m glad that helped. There are some really great, similar headphones in cheaper price ranges, so I highly recommend giving them a shot. Read more

The V6s are also quite portable, which is a plus for them too! Read more
I thought about it, but was just too cheap. I got the V6s used for like $50, and I didn’t really want to spend more than that on my non-main pair of headphones. Read more
The HD600 is totally awesome, and a very close second favorite of mine. You really can’t go wrong with either :-) Read more

Haha, I’m too frugal for a full collection :-) I only have as many headphones as I “need”. One pair for home, one pair for travel, and some cheap earbuds for walking around town and stuff. Read more
Yeah, I tried those recently and was surprised at how much I liked them! Read more
Funny you should mention the MDR-7506—I own them too for the same reasons. The Q701 is my ideal headphone, but it doesn’t work for travel since it’s open-backed. So I bought a used MDR-V6 (which is basically the same as the 7506 these days) and I use that as my travel set of headphones. They’re great, and for the… Read more
The problem is that those two things are, to an extent, mutually exclusive. It’s hard to create such a large soundstage with a closed headphone; that’s why open headphones are so great. But, I do remember the AKG K550 sounding surprisingly open for a closed can, though I’m not sure how great the sound isolation is.… Read more
After years of avoiding Grado because everyone called them harsh, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I actually really like them a lot. I’m testing an SR80e now for a future post and I’m liking it, although it isn’t nearly as comfortable as the Q701. Read more
Heh...sorry. That was kind of the opposite intention of my post! Although maybe the intention was more like: The next time can be your last time, if you really do your due diligence in research, testing, and warranty-voiding :-) Read more
I have! Alan, our deputy editor, loves them. I thought they were great, since they improved the bass and had a much more comfortable headband. However, they fixed the bass by changing the ear pads to these softer, memory foam-like pads, which I did not like. I much prefer the ear pads on the Q701. They don’t seem as… Read more

Ah, you’re right, looks like a similar boat. My apologies. At any rate, not much anyone can do if their data was taken—thankfully it wasn’t passwords or anything. I wish they’d release a list though. Read more
I know, it’s really annoying that there’s no list. But they say it’s mostly Chinese developers, so it probably doesn’t affect most of us in the US. Read more
