Hmm, that sounds like something else is wrong. As you can see from the screenshot, Device Manager is not blurry at all using the 8.1 scaling method, and I don’t recall it being blurry in Windows 8.1 either. Read more

I’m currently using five drives, I believe. My board has four ports (plus one of the drives is IDE). I think once you get to 10 drives, it expects you to use a RAID card. Read more

Something my wife and I have learned over our (admittedly short) time together thus far: your love language can change over time, too. Her biggest love language used to be gifts, but since we bought a house and she got a full time job, acts of service has moved up much higher, since her time is at a bigger premium Read more

Interesting observation. I personally wouldn’t lump this in the same category—while it’s definitely a form of communication, it isn’t the same kind of communication required when discussing money problems, in-laws or housework. That said, I haven’t read the book myself, so perhaps that kind of communication is Read more

Yeah, what the others said. If you’re self-aware enough to know this stuff, then you’re ahead of a lot of us! When my wife and I took it, she wasn’t very surprised by anything. I wasn’t surprised, per se, but it was like something clicked and it all made sense to me how these things worked. As a result I’m much more Read more

Yup, totally. My wife definitely has gifts high on the list, but she’s far from a materialistic person. She just likes little things, like flowers, or bringing back her favorite candy from the grocery store, or whatever. Little stuff to show that I was thinking of her. And since gifts is at the bottom of my list, it Read more

Yup, this is my biggest thing too. The Chromecast and Roku will get regular updates with new apps and channels and features all the time—your smart TV will likely get updates very slow, or get abandoned completely early on. For the price, they’re absolutely worth it. Read more

This is not the same thing. This will drastically lower the size of the window and make it hard to read. It’s a good fix for some apps, but does not really solve the same problem discussed in the article. Read more

No, as stated in the article, this is for Windows 10, not Windows 8. The entire point is to take the apps that look good in Windows 8 but bad in Windows 10 look good again. Read more

Huh, I was under the impression this was fixed in Windows 10. Maybe there’s a setting for it? Read more

Eh, some of the setup is just a little easier. You can still do everything you can in Debian, but all of the supported programs work (in theory) a bit more out-of-the-box. Plus there’s a web interface, which is nice and a bit easier to manage stuff from than using TeamViewer or whatever. Again, in theory. Read more

I don’t back everything up, just the stuff that’s really irreplaceable (my photos, for example). But I use Crashplan. Read more

Oh yeah, for sure, you can go much cheaper and uglier if you’re hiding it away (and have the room). Strangely, I have more room in my entertainment center to house this thing than I do in any of my closets :-) Read more

Oh yeah, I know that method, I just wasn’t sure if there was some special method for video game controllers that people use. I’m basically just lazy. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Read more

I know I know I know shhhhhhh I’m upgrading to all wireless anyway so I don’t care that much. Read more

Not too bad. It comes with an integrated fan controller with “low”, “medium”, and “high” settings for up to three fans, and it comes with three fans built-in. I’m sure you’d be able to do better with higher-quality fans/a more precise fan controller, but for an out-of-the-box solution, it isn’t bad at all. Read more

Ooooh, very nice! That looks like a great case (except I’d be out of drive bays, so I guess it wouldn’t work for me for very long). Man, Fractal Design is so good. Read more

These days, I’m just running Debian. But if I had to start back over from scratch, I’d probably use Amahi. Read more

The Node 304 is a nice case too. The 804 is big, yes, but that kind of comes with the territory—if you want to hold a lot of drives (it holds up to 10), you’ll need space to do so. I love the 304 if you have fewer drive needs, or for an HTPC or something like that. Read more
