You Probably Don't Need a Tool-Free NVME SSD Enclosure, But Boy Is It Fast

If you happen to have an NVME SSD lying around, or (more likely) you just want to build the smallest, fastest external drive possible, Plugable just released a new NVME enclosure that doesn’t require any tools, which they claim is a first.

The enclosure’s spring-loaded mechanism makes it easy to swap out drives at will, which could be handy if you work in IT, or if you just want to periodically upgrade to more storage as prices continue to fall. And with throughput speeds of over 900 MBps, it’ll be far faster than any SATA-based enclosure could ever be in practice, or even in theory, since SATA speeds max out at 600 MBps under the best of circumstances. Most people do not need this thing, let’s be clear, but anyone doing intensive video work and the like will definitely notice the difference.

The Plugable enclosure will normally retail for $50, but they’re offering a $10 launch coupon for a limited time.
