Over-the-Door Shoe Holders Suck. Except For This One, Which Is Good.

A few months ago, my colleague Ana Suarez wrote about her prized shoe rack from Amazon. For me, this blog was Good, because a) I, like Ana, love shoes and own a lot of them, and b) I love organization even more. Alas, even though I already had my own six-shelf shoe rack and an over-the-door shoe holder, a significant portion of my shoes lived in a pile in the middle of my walk-in closet’s floor for lack of space.

For months and months, I used an over-the-door organizer that had 24 pockets, like this one. It fit one shoe per pocket, which is totally fine if you own 12 pairs of shoes. Regrettably, I own...more than 12, so I had resigned myself to wading through a sea of shoes every time I needed clothes. That is, until I spontaneously realized that life doesn’t have to be this way.

I did a simple Amazon search, and found the Whitmor Over The Door Shoe Shelves. Not only does this storage solution contain 26 pockets, but each of those pockets fits a pair, not just one shoe. That’s a total of 52 shoes in one over-the-door shoe holder!

Assembly isn’t complicated, either. You pretty much just unfold the shelves, and then hang them over your closet door (or any door) using the included metal brackets, no tools necessary.

Now, 26 pairs of my shoes are neatly hanging in my closet, and my closet floor is clear of rogue footwear. It’s pretty much all the license I need to go shoe shopping yet again.

So, not to start a feud, but sorry, Ana. My shoe storage solution is better.
