The competition for our readers’ favorite USB charging hub wasn’t much of a competition at all: Anker’s PowerPort line dominated the nominations to win the title.
This shouldn’t be too surprising: Anker already makes the best affordable charging cables, battery packs, Bluetooth speaker, Bluetooth earbuds, and more.
The PowerPort comes in several different varieties depending on your needs, including models with USB-C Power Delivery for your MacBook, Quick Charge versions, and more.
Here’s what you had to say:
It doesn’t have anything fancy. No Qualcomm Quick Charge, no USB C, but the price is good if you don’t need those features, and there’s a version that comes with 5 micro USB cables. Its AC connection is through an IEC C7 (“figure 8" style) cord. Supports international voltage (but just about everything does) so if you get an appropriate cord, you can use it in any country.
I accidentally did a destructive test on it. I plugged in something that shorted the power pins of one of the ports. The port immediately shut off and remained shut off. The other ports continued working. I unplugged the unit, plugged it back in, and the port is working again. - Burned commenter
- Good build quality. Doesn’t get hot.
- The type-c port charges my 2016 MBP with Touchbar
- It’s dead quiet. The high pitch noise that most USB charger/hubs make drives me nuts. This is the only one I bought recently that doesn’t make that sound. - e.j.
