Uniqlo's New SPRZ NY Activewear Line Is a Breath Of Fresh Air in a Sea of Spandex

At this point, a fashion brand doing activewear is pretty passé, but Uniqlo combining the utilitarian nature of their brand with the out-there designs of SPRZ NY in collaboration with MoMa, seems like something altogether new.

The activewear, with some pieces for men and women live right now and the rest launching soon, will seamlessly blend into their already well-established “LifeWear” branding. The collection will mostly feature the frantic line work SPRZ NY is known for, with some more intricate geometric patters scattered about, designed by artists Francois Morellet, Niko Luoma and the Experimental Jetset studio.

Uniqlo’s pre-existing technology of DRY-EX and AIRism will play nicely with other lightweight materials to create a line of clothing that responds to the wearer’s situation. This collection is the center of a Venn diagram of clothes that make sense on one side and clothes that you can move around in on the other.

At the moment, the selection is small, with a couple parkas and leggings for guys, and sports bras for women. But the rest of the styles, a total of 25 for men and 20 for women, will launch next week.
