Tommy John Underwear Is No Longer a Boys Club

Soft, modal underwear isn’t just for boxer briefs, so one of our readers’ favorite brands, Tommy John, is launching women’s.

The women’s collection features two of the tentpole Tommy John fabrics, Air and Second Skin, plus their patented Stay-Tucked style as a thin camisole. Air is “an ultra-light, mesh, anti-microbial stretch fabric” which means it’s breathable (obviously), with seamless, bonded edges. That means if you’re all about hiding the fact that you’re wearing underwear, but not about to go commando, this is the line for you. Second Skin brings the classic Tommy John craftsmanship in “a luxuriously soft, non-pilling micro-modal fabric.”

Each collection comes in multiple styles, with the Cheeky, Brief, and Thong common across both, but an additional Boyshort style in Second Skin. The Stay-Tucked Camisole is a classic cami, but features a very cool, yet very simple, addition of a j-hook in the back that converts it into a racerback tank.

And boy, are they freakin’ soft. I’m not an avid thong-wearer (who needs the perma-wedgie, man?) but the Second Skin Thong basically feels like nothing. The Air Cheeky is the perfect shape and material for lounging around the house, with enough coverage that it feels like you can walk around without giving your neighbors a show, and there’s no fear of bunching up in all the wrong places.

For me, the stand out is by far the camisole. I don’t usually wear camisoles, mostly because I have PTSD from the amount of times my mother forced me to wear them under baggy sweaters “so the wind doesn’t go up.” But this one feels almost shapewear-esque in design, without the awkward suction, and the added j-hook means I can wear it under almost anything.

Welcome to the future, Tommy John.
