Your kitchen sink is a disgusting place, and certainly not something you’d want your food to touch before you eat it. And yet, where else are you going to wash your fruits, drain your pasta, and thaw your shrimp?
While I don’t totally buy into the Where Did the Soda Go-esque pratfalls in Equilibric’s promo video, there’s no doubt that spilled food is a thing that occasionally happens when when washing and defrosting in the sink, and Equilibric is a clever solution that can eliminate basically any risk.
The Equilibric colander, which comes in two sizes, nests inside a matching bowl, but rotates independently of said bowl, so you can dump out your dirty rinsing or thawing water without risking dumping your food into the sink. That means no more holding a pot lid in place to keep your food from falling out, and no need to spend five minutes turning a bowl over degree-by-degree to slowly drain the water without disturbing your food. You just dump out the water like you would normally dump out a bowl of water, and your food stays behind.
I do wish the holes in the colander were a little smaller, since they’re a little bigger than you’d want for rinsing rice. Otherwise, it works as well as advertised (and it’s a simple, albeit clever concept, so it should), and at only $15, it’s an easy impulse buy.
