Uniqlo combined their minimalist sensibilities with JW Anderson’s unquestionable quirkiness and dropped a stripy wonderland collection.
The Uniqlo x JW Anderson collab had been talked about for a while, but it’s finally here and you can buy it. The collection features bold, architectural cuts that feel like if Alice in Wonderland vacationed in Nantucket. Complete with oversized stripes and denim bucket hats, it’s one part whimsical, one part utilitarian.
According to the press release, the collab was designed with the theme of “British classics. Designed for life today.” That’s seen in the brightly tonal patterns of t-shirts and dresses, plus the ruffled collars of tops and mismatched stripes of button-downs. The collection is not lacking when it comes to classic staples, with denim jackets, plain pocket t-shirts, and the Uniqlo-exclusive Pocketable Parka thrown into the mix.
Everything in the collection is under $60 (the pricer pieces are outerwear and dresses), with most falling in the $20 range. There’s a lot of JW Anderson in this collection, seen mostly in the womenswear with the oversized ruffled skirts and asymmetrical designs, but the streamlined practicality of Uniqlo shines through as well.
And yes, there is a seagull sweater and yes, I will be buying it immediately.
