Update: Amazon has sold out at the promotional price, but B&H still has the year-older model for $110.
It's no secret that GoPro dominates the action cam market, but Sony's AS30V is a very solid competitor, and is over half off today.
Gizmodo's most recent action cam roundup pegged the Sony as a respectable third place finisher, but at its full $300 MSRP, I'd probably recommend you get a GoPro. Today only though, Amazon's selling the Sony for just $140, which is within the range of many budget-minded action cams (including the $130 GoPro HERO), but with features more becoming of a high-end device, including:
- SteadyShot image stabilization reduces blur
- Built-in Wi-Fi and one touch NFC for remote control and viewing via smartphone1
- 6 video modes including 1080/60p HD and 4x slow motion
This price is only available today, or until sold out, so don't waste any time. [ Amazon]
Update: B&H coincidentally has the previous generation Sony HDR-AS15 on sale for $110 today. Its waterproof housing is heavier (though it can actually go deeper), it only takes 2 megapixel stills (compared to the AS30V's 12), and it lacks built-in GPS, but otherwise it's pretty similar. Can't go wrong either way.
