Amazon's Surprisingly Decent Fire HD 7 Tablet is Only $79 Today

Update: Sold out.

Today only for Prime Day, Amazon’s knocking a whopping $60 off the price of the surprisingly-great Kindle Fire HD 7, bringing it down to just $79 (or $99 for the 16GB version) for Prime members. That’s a match for the tablet’s all-time low price, and even $20 less than the Lilliputian Fire HD 6. You could go so far as to call it a <clears throat> “fire sale.”

This thing isn’t going to replace your computer, but it’s a perfectly serviceable Netflix-streaming, game-playing piece of glass, and at $79, that’s a-okay. If you’re on the fence, be sure to check out Gizmodo’s review (which is technically of the 6” model, but internally the 7” is identical), but remember that this price is only available today, so don’t dawdle. Bonus: If you’re buying this for your kid, consider the Fire HD 7 Kid’s Edition, which is marked down to $129. It includes a rugged case, kid-friendly apps and content, and a two-year “no questions asked” warranty.
